Michael Kurkowski was born in Prussia (which at that time was a portion of Germany, the city of Coburgh of this time is located in the east central part of Germany and Prussia). The last know whereabouts of Michael and his wife Augusta is Cass County, Nebraska during the 1880 census. At that time they are shown to be a farmer and housewife, ages 64 and 63 respectively. This family came to America from Germany ca. 1868 with 4 youngest children. They all settled in Nebraska.

Their oldest John brought his family over in 1892, and stayed for a time with his sister Anna Kuskie and Leopald Draves and family in Grant, Nebraska.

John Kurkowski and Louise came to America in 1892. They stayed for a time with his sister Anna Draves and her family in Grant, Perkins County, Nebraska.

Two brothers came to America together about 1867 (mid 1860)'s. They settled in Reading, Pennsylvania area. A sister Mrs. Bernard H Schmidt came over a bit later and raised her family in Reading, Pa.

In May 1876 they left Reading, Pennsylvania by covered wagon. George was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. Wilhelm was born in the covered wagon near Oshkosh, Wisconsin. They had stopped for the winter somewhere in Wisconsin.

They were in Cass County, Nebraska for the 1880 census. They moved to western Nebraska then to central Iowa.

Leopald Drews became A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES on April 20, 1891 in Ogalalla, Keith County, Nebraska.

Leopold and Anna lived 15 years in Ogalalla, Nebraska before moving in 1901 to Iowa finally settling near Dows, Iowa.

Notes for CHARLES WILLIAM KURKOWSKI / KUSKIE:

The Keith County, Nebraska records show they Homesteaded 5 miles south of Ogallala, Nebraska. It appears they were victims of the drought for several years and returned to Iowa via Cass County, Nebraska. The trip was by covered wagon in 1895. They then returned to Perkins County, Nebraska in December 1909, where they lived the rest of their lives.
